Request Line # 6: Common- Go! (Honor Flow Productions Remix)
I have been sitting on this remix for a cool minute now. What better day to give it to the masses than a day dedicated to love... or lust... however you see it, haha! One of my favorite jams from one of my Top 5 favorite MCs.
I can write an essay and them some about my memories and influence from the album "BE," where you will find the original produced by Kanye. Ye' produced the entire album for the exception of two tracks, "Love Is..." and "It's Your World." Those were produced by the frequent Com Sense collaborator, the late, great J. Dilla.
And the music video tho? No lie, on some "Taxicab Confession"-ish, is how my brain somewhat operates.... keeping it 100 like Wilt Chamberlain *Shrugs* haha! Alright, before I get caught up, enough "foreplay."

"thE oLd SouL" Spinning @ The MojaMoja Pre-Grammy Afterparty + Flicks
Photography By Sheldon Botler Photography
For the past 5 Grammy Awards weekends, I have had the distinct honor and pleasure of working behind the scenes for the MojaMoja Pre-Grammy Brunch and Benefit Concert. I have watched the event grow from the lobby of The O Hotel in Downtown LA in 2009 to selling out the Avalon in Hollywood this year. I have gained a wealth of industry knowledge, stories, and friendships that has made this something I look forward to each and every year.
This year however, was the most special. 2014 is the first year we had an after party after the concert and for the first time, I was asked to contribute to the function as an artist. DJing in between another line-up at Bardot, which including the leader of my favorite band and one of my musical heroes, ?uestlove of The Roots. I have to be honest. Looking at the picture above, I still can not believe it's not Photoshopped, haha! Absolutely unreal and I am incredibly humbled to have had this opportunity.
Click below to peep out flicks from both the Concert and The After Party. We would love to see you their next year!

"thE oLd SouL" on Soul Train.com: 7 Days Of Funk Review + Ricky Lawson + Black Milk & SuCh Q&As
Over the last month, lots of goodness from my brain for "The Railroad That Don Cornelius Build..."
Q&A: SuCh-Miss Independent
My 1 on 1 with the multi-talented SuCh. An absolute pleasure to talk to, and personally inspirational for myself, SuCh’s and my conversation covered her upbringing as a preacher’s daughter, her “light bulb” moment, early Grammy/American Idol experiences, and navigating through uncharted territory in this new age of music business independence. My fellow indie artists, you may wanna sit down and read this one.
Q&A: Black Milk- The Art of Storytelling
My sit down with one of my favorite Producer/MCs, Detroit's own, Black Milk. During the west coast tour run for the album, Black talked with me about the creation of his latest LP No Poison, No Paradise, his new creative house under the banner Computer Ugly, and his work with Jack White and Don Cheadle.
Album Review: Snoop Dogg & Dam-Funk- 7 Days Of Funk
My review of the long awaited, much anticipated calibration album from two of the West Coast's finest: Snoop Dogg and Dam-Funk. Off to the mothership... and allow this album to be your passport to come aboard. “May the funk be with you… as we toast to the boogie.”
In Remembrance and Respect: Ricky Lawson
Last but not least, my thoughts and stories on the late, great Mr. Ricky Lawson. I had the honor and pleasure of knowing and rocking with Ricky. This is my utmost "Soul Claps And Salutes" to "The Drummer For The Stars."

The Demonstration 3
Album Art Design: Derek Heath For Fine Folks Design
"Music knows no color or race, it only knows energy.”
I owe my love and eventual professional pursuit of music to Radio. You know that kid who would camp out in front of their boombox with a blank tape in the deck, two fingers firmly placed upon the record and play buttons, and wait for the precise moment when “that song” would broadcast through the speakers? I was that kid. I spent many a summer vacation from school like this and in turn, created my own homemade radio shows. I would use my parents’ boombox or my Grandmother’s double tape deck stereo system with a $10 Sony microphone to record. I even, much to Grandmommy’s dismay, played with the volume knob and frequency levers pretending it was a crossfader. “Chuckie! Stop playing with that thing like it’s a toy,” scolding me between episodes of Matlock, Perry Mason, or The People’s Court. I thought I was only one who did this; until I started to meet more and more fellow DJs, only to discover we all had this same exact experience in our upbringings. There’s nothing like hearing yourself on the radio.
As I grew older, I started to recognize song structure and sequencing flow because of radio; listening to mixers on 92.3/100.3 The Beat and Power 106 like any LA raised DJ in the 1990s/2000s. These shows combined classic hits, fresh new cuts, and a hint of humor via production drops and sweepers to help form my concept of mixing.
Fast forward to 2014, and I have spent the last 7 years of my life in college and commercial radio. For this third installment of The Demonstration, I’ve drawn on my lifetime of experiences, knowledge, and love of radio. The presentation is amplified and the sonics push high definition range, just as if you were listening to it through an FM dial. These are my influences, past and present, wrapped all into a Lex Luger “Total Package.” This is AMP 97.1, KROQ, 94.7 The Wave, KDAY, Power 106, K-Earth 101, KIIS FM, KCRW, and KXLU all in 73 minutes. This is the elimination of the boundaries, borders, and cultural segregation we place on music blaring through the airwaves. This is my “Demonstration” of radio… KHFP is now on the air.

Snoopy On Ice
Album Art Design: Rowell Marcos For Magic Mustache Media
The Peanuts gang has always been one of my favorite comic strips for many a reason. And of course, A Charlie Brown Christmas is essential Christmas watching for myself and my family. It's right there with Home Alone 1 & 2, The Grinch, Jingle All The Way, and so on.
After the homie Rowell spend about two weeks physically sketching and coloring this for another related project that didn't come to pass, I knew we still had to use the design in another manner because I loved it so much. So it became official H.F.P. Christmas Sweater and the album cover for this flip I made yesterday of Vince Guaraldi Trio's "Skating" from the A Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack.
Enjoy, Merry Christmas to you and yours, and "On Earth, peace, and good will toward men [and women]." (c) Linus
